What another year in West Indies Cricket. After the regional team failed to qualify for the 2023 50 over World Cup in India a few months ago, they somehow managed to put back smiles on the faces of West Indian fans. For the first time ever having International Cricket at home in the Caribbean before Christmas, the West Indies achieved the double by claiming the ODI and T20I series against the England men’s team. The one consistent factor in both series was the sensational batting by Shai Hope. He ended the series in similar fashion to how it started, smashing a six in the fifth T20I. The Trinbago Young Starz Touring Cricket Academy is a registered non-profit sporting organization ( N.G.O.) founded within Trinidad and Tobago. The main goal of this team is to develop and harness the talent possessed by the country’s young cricketers and within the region by having them heavily involved in international cricket, thus giving them exposure and training. By doing so, this will build confidence, character and talent at a personal and also professional level. International tours will further aid in successfully developing these young men, providing them with the experience, recognition and opportunity to demonstrate and test their skills against their global competitors in foreign lands with multinational teams. This article is of it’s first kind in recognizing the youthful and naturally talented cricketers this country of Trinidad and Tobago has in existence. On Friday May 31st 2019, West Indies totally annihilated the Pakistanis at Trent Bridge, Nottingham in their opening World Cup fixture. Cruising to victory by 7 wickets, this was Pakistan’s heaviest defeat in World Cup Cricket history. The margin of defeat was 218 balls to spare after being bundled out for a paltry 105 on a pitch that had good pace and bounce for the fast bowlers on display.      The once mighty West Indies were the winners of the inaugural World Cup in 1975 and then repeated the feat in 1979. The men from the Caribbean lost the final to winners India, well led by Kapil Dev in 1983. Unfortunately that was the last time the West Indians reached a World Cup final in the 50 over version. The old saying goes that records are meant to be broken. On Sunday May 5th 2019 at the Clontarf Cricket Ground in Dublin, West Indies openers Shai Hope and John Campbell made heads spin globally with a World record opening stand of 365 for the 1st wicket. John Campbell struck his maiden ODI century, smashing 179 while Shai Hope brought up his 5th ODI century in his 50th game in this form of the game. England were in the Caribbean for two months with our white sandy beaches and clear blue waters to enjoy in-between. Finally this tour has ended for the tourists on a high. After a disappointing Test series lost to the Windies 2-1 and then sharing the honors 2-2 in the ODI series, England whitewashed the home side 3-0 in the T20 International series. Having demolished the West Indies in the final leg of the tour with the T20 series victory, it just goes to show that this form of cricket cannot be taken for granted. England arrived n the Caribbean in January 2019 on a high and full of confidence as they whitewashed Sri Lanka late 2018 in their own backyard 3-0. West Indies were not given a chance by a couple of former English cricketers before the Test series started, mainly due to the fact that the Windies were humiliated in their last two overseas tours to India and Bangladesh between October to December 2018, as the regional side suffered their first ever innings defeat to Bangladesh in the second Test of that series. It was a tour to forget for the West Indians, but one has to say that the current series being played in the Caribbean just proves that the talent is still existent in this part of the World.
