The Trinbago Young Starz Touring Cricket Academy is a registered non-profit sporting organization ( N.G.O.) founded within Trinidad and Tobago. The main goal of this team is to develop and harness the talent possessed by the country’s young cricketers and within the region by having them heavily involved in international cricket, thus giving them exposure and training. By doing so, this will build confidence, character and talent at a personal and also professional level. International tours will further aid in successfully developing these young men, providing them with the experience, recognition and opportunity to demonstrate and test their skills against their global competitors in foreign lands with multinational teams. This article is of it’s first kind in recognizing the youthful and naturally talented cricketers this country of Trinidad and Tobago has in existence. It was a hard-fought series victory for the West Indies over the World’s number one ranked T20 team India. The series margin 3-2 in favor of the home team and it was a bit of fresh air for once. Captain Rovman Powell led from the front with his astute captaincy skills on the field. West Indies have now recorded back to back T20I series victories in the last 4 months. Perhaps this latest T20I series win can be the catalyst this young West Indies team needs going forward. After all, it has been a very disappointing last year or so having not qualified firstly for the 2022 T20 World Cup super 12 in Australia and more recently booted out of the 50 over World Cup taking place in India later this year. It seems as though Cricket is propelling along the same path as football, with clubs having authority over the players. With this progression, it means therefore International Cricket could be severely impacted. Bilateral series henceforth would suffer and national teams will basically be assembled just before major global tournaments such as the World Cup. Players would have played very minimum bilateral series and franchise teams will have the final say in releasing those players to these mega events. That’s the way of modern sports unfortunately. If you did not realize that the West Indies are not in the World Cup later this year in India, please pinch yourself. Yes folks, it’s the harsh reality of life. From being World Cup 50 over champions in 1975 and 1979 to not even being part of the 2023 World Cup is basically a slap in the face. All West Indian fans kept asking themselves if things could get any lower for the regional side and unfortunately it did. In professional sports, there are specific players who are simply overrated. More often it is not a true reflection of their talents as an athlete and this goes for Cricket as well. Overestimated Cricketers are based on one’s opinion, but more often than not, statistics do not lie. It should be well noted that the word ‘overestimated’ or ‘overrated’ does not mean the individual is ‘inferior’ or ‘substandard’.
