     All the hype of a resurgence before the 31st of May 2019 gave the men from the Caribbean great hope, but at the end of the New Zealand match on Saturday June 22nd, it just wasn’t meant to be. On Friday May 31st 2019, West Indies totally annihilated the Pakistanis at Trent Bridge, Nottingham in their opening World Cup fixture. Cruising to victory by 7 wickets, this was Pakistan’s heaviest defeat in World Cup Cricket history. The margin of defeat was 218 balls to spare after being bundled out for a paltry 105 on a pitch that had good pace and bounce for the fast bowlers on display.      The once mighty West Indies were the winners of the inaugural World Cup in 1975 and then repeated the feat in 1979. The men from the Caribbean lost the final to winners India, well led by Kapil Dev in 1983. Unfortunately that was the last time the West Indians reached a World Cup final in the 50 over version.
